ABOUT US
"The theatre arts are a gift for the betterment of the individual, the family and the wider community. Community Theatre adds to the social capital of a community, it develops the skills, community spirit and artistic sensibilities of those involved while it also creates a place for debate, self expression and interactivity that is important for the health of a community."
The work of Detour Theatre is centered around the professional skills of our Co-Directors Devon and Kim Williamson and volunteers from the community.
There is a lot going on at Detour Theatre. We produce four shows a year (plays), run drama classes for children, teen, adults and groups with special needs.

OUR PEOPLE
Kim Williamson
Kim is a local hero (literally, she won an award!) and whirld-wind of energy, and pink hair. Kim directs two shows each year for the theatre, runs weekly drama classes for children, and runs our very busy programme of drama classes for adults with intellectual disabilities. On top of this Kim is a popular actor and an experienced playwright.
Devon Williamson
Devon is our resident playwright, director and drama tutor for teens and adults. Devon runs our annual Season of Shakespeare. He writes a play every year that premieres at Detour Theatre and then produced by theatre's throughout New Zealand and Australia.
